Swapo seeks to counter Supreme Court ruling

Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila announced in Parliament on Tuesday that the government plans to introduce a bill addressing the Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage ruling. The aim of the bill is to prevent the recognition of such marriages within the country. According to the Namibia Press Agency, Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said the proposed legislation seeks to modify existing common law principles, with the intention of ensuring that same-sex marriages are not acknowledged in Namibia, even if they were legally conducted in countries where such unions are allowed.
