Japan to begin discharging Fukushima water on Thursday

Japan is set to begin discharging radioactive, treated water from the wrecked Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean on Thursday. Chris Gilbert reports from Tokyo that the government has planned the discharge for two years while accumulating more than a million tonnes of treated water, which has been stripped of most radionuclides in a special facility. However, the water will still contain traces of the isotope tritium and the project has drawn criticism from Japan’s neighbours China and South Korea.
