Civil society calls for urgent implementation of Basic Income Grant

Civil society organizations are advocating for the introduction of a basic income grant, citing a severe rise in poverty and desperation among ordinary Namibians. According to the Namibia Press Agency, the plea is part of recommendations made by civil society representatives to the Ministry of Finance, Public Enterprises, and the National Planning Commission. Graham Hopwood, Executive Director of the Institute of Public Policy Research, highlighted the levels of poverty, which have reached an unprecedented high since the country’s independence in 1990.
