Bank Windhoek supports the NBS to host The Nutcracke

Between Wednesday, 25 October and Saturday, 28 October 2023, the National Ballet School (NBS) performed Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker at the National Theatre of Namibia in Windhoek. Sponsored by Bank Windhoek, the performance sold out for five consecutive nights.

Bank Windhoek’s Executive Officer of Marketing and Corporate Communication Services, Jacquiline Pack, said Bank Windhoek regards the Arts as a fundamental expression of the human spirit. “This experience knows no bounds and needs no language, yet it connects people across cultures, continents, and the world. Through the Arts, we speak one language with one soul,” she said.

A wonderful experience of dance and music, The Nutcracker is an 1892 two-act classical ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, set on Christmas Eve at the foot of a Christmas tree in a child’s imagination. The plot is an adaptation of E. T. A. Hoffmann’s 1816 short story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. It tells a story about a girl who befriends a nutcracker that comes to life on Christmas Eve and wages a battle against the evil Mouse King.

The owner of the National Ballet School, Zelrine Verdoes, said this year’s event was tremendously successful. “Our décor, costumes, and theme, along with the popular music of Tchaikovsky, made our show stand apart from the rest of our productions,” she said.

Verdoes thanked Bank Windhoek for the support and said that her students, as young as five years old, enjoyed the experience. “We gave all our students with differing physical abilities and talents the opportunity to experience the wonder of the National Theatre of Namibia,” she said.
