A man aged between 30 and 40 years died on Tuesday after allegedly being struck by a train near Tsumeb. The Namibian Police Force’s deputy commissioner in the Oshikoto Region, Deputy Commissioner Wynand Neels, revealed this to the media. It is alleged that the train was travelling from Tsumeb to Okapuka near Otavi when at a certain railway curve about 10 kilometres outside of Tsumeb, the operator noticed something that appeared to be a person lying on the railway and immediately applied the brakes to stop but unfortunately, he drove over the person. When the train eventually came to a standstill, the operator confirmed that it was an adult male that the train had run over. The deceased’s body was taken to Tsumeb State Hospital for a post-mortem to be conducted, as investigations into the matter continue.
