Zimbabwean presidential campaigns kick off

Both Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, and the man seen as his closest rival, Nelson Chamisa, of the Citizens Coalition for Change, launched their presidential campaigns at the weekend, calling on compatriots to buy into their vision for the country. News24 reports that, for his part, Mnangagwa said that “every village should have a solar-powered borehole and have nutritious gardens,” promising that households would be “taken care of throughout the lean season”. Mnangagwa also claimed that Zanu-PF had achieved most of its set targets when he came into office. Chamisa meanwhile took his campaign trail to Johannesburg in South Africa, pleading with Zimbabweans to come back home to vote.
