The SA Agriculture minister signs permits for the importation of eggs and poultry meat ahead of the festive season

Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development minister Thoko Didiza has decided to allow the importation of table eggs, fertilized eggs, and poultry meat. This is to ensure sufficient stocks are available on time for the Christmas holiday season amid the avian flu outbreak. The outbreak was reported in the country a few months ago, hitting Gauteng the hardest. More than seven-million chickens have since been culled, leading to a shortage of eggs.
