The City of Cape Town says it is doing all it can to curb gang violence, including deploying additional operational resources like CCTV surveillance, and gunshot detection. Last Saturday gang violence was at a high in Manenberg when The Americans, Clever Kids, and Hard Livings gangs opened gunfire on one another. Three people were killed and another three were seriously wounded. Mayoral committee member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says communities on the Cape Flats cannot continue living in fear:
