Bank Windhoek staff members play a crucial role in uplifting the community in which we operate. This statement was shared by Bank Windhoek’s Executive Officer of Marketing and Corporate Communication Services, Jacquiline Pack, when she launched the Bank’s annual Empathy Project on Friday, 2 June 2023, in Windhoek. “This is how we entrench our social footprint as responsible corporate citizens. As Connectors of Positive Change, we look forward to significantly impacting the education sector, which is Project’s focus for this year.”
Asked why the education sector, Pack responded by saying that one of the goals of an education system is to create responsible, caring and socially aware citizens who feel connected to their communities, societies and the wider world. “We saw it fit to see how we can assist the education sector to achieve these goals, despite many challenges they are currently facing,” she said.
With close to N$500 000 to be invested in the education sector, branches, agencies and departments across the country will receive seed capital to invest in their chosen project. Pack encouraged staff members to increase this amount through fundraising initiatives to make a more significant impact. To increase participation, the Empathy Project will have an internal competition to crown the top three Change Makers.
Among other social responsibility initiatives, the Bank Windhoek Empathy Project aims to remind staff members of the importance of showing empathy among people. It is the cornerstone of Bank Windhoek’s existence as a responsible corporate citizen. “Empathy matters because it fosters social connectedness and civic behaviour. It is important because it helps us understand how others are feeling so we can respond appropriately to the situation. It is typically associated with social behaviour and there is a lot of research showing that greater empathy leads to more helping behaviour, collectively,” said Pack.
Pack added that the project would not support individuals or schools outside the country and would not give any cash to beneficiaries. “Schools nationwide need assistance with stationery, textbooks, soup kitchens, uniforms, toiletries for boys and girls in hostels, or minor renovations to a school. These are some of focus areas the branches and departments will focus on but is not limited to,” said Pack.
The Bank Windhoek Empathy Project will conclude on Thursday, 31 August 2023. “We look forward to the innovative ideas our staff members develop this year in building and enhancing our relationships with all Namibians. We also look forward to seeing how many schools we will positively impact throughout the Project,” said Pack.
