Despite assurances to the contrary from the country’s Minister of Electricity, South African power utility Eskom is unable to meet a sudden increase in demand. This as recent cold weather has triggered a ten percent increase in electricity consumption with higher stages of scheduled power outages expected to remain in place until Eskom’s generating capacity has improved.
