Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted Israel has right to self-defence, but stressed Palestine needs recognition as a state. While he acknowledged the latest Hamas attack on Israel was “unprecedented in its cruelty” he warned Israel’s ground operation in Gaza could cause “unacceptable” civilian casualties.
