Last call for applications for the International Parliamentary Scholarships in the German Bundestag

Press Release

The German Bundestag (German Parliament) invites politically and socially engaged university graduates to join its International Parliamentary Scholarships (IPS) programs in Berlin in 2024. The programs are designed to give talented and politically interested young university graduates an up-close look at the German parliamentary system and the political decision-making processes in the German Bundestag.

The IPS program for Sub-Saharan African countries will take place from January 1-31. In addition to a one-week internship with a member of the German Bundestag, a compact preparation conveys knowledge about parliamentary democracy as well as the working methods and function of the parliament. Furthermore, the topics plural society, protection of minorities and culture of remembrance as a political mission will be dealt with. A workshop on project management will help to develop own project ideas for the promotion of democracy and civil society in the respective countries of origin. The program is aimed at students from South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

The IPS regular program, on the other hand, is designed for five months and takes place from March 1 to July 31. Here, the scholars can get to know the various tasks of the Bundestag in a full-time position in a parliamentary office. Tasks include, for example, preparing detailed reports, writing speeches or letters, preparing for meetings or accompanying the MP to meetings and committees.

The program is supplemented by various events at Berlin universities and political foundations.

To participate in the programs, interested individuals must be from Namibia and younger than 30 years old. They should also already have a university degree and be able to speak German.

The application deadline is July 15. Application materials can be sent to info@windhuk.diplo.de.
