India’s spacecraft reveals striking lunar images

India’s space agency has unveiled the initial images from the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft, now in lunar orbit after entering on Saturday. The images depict the lunar craters progressively expanding as the spacecraft approaches. BBC reports that Chandrayaan-3’s lander and rover are set to touch down on August 23. If successful, India will pioneer a controlled “soft landing” near the south pole, a historic achievement.
