Former Fisheries Minister wants government to cover legal fees

Bernhardt Esau, former Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, has appealed for government assistance in covering his legal expenses related to the ongoing Fishrot trial. Esau, charged during his tenure as a minister, emphasized his inability to finance his legal representation as his assets and bank accounts remain frozen. Esau’s lawyer, Richard Metcalfe, withdrew from the case due to financial constraints. Meanwhile, State prosecutor Ed Marondedze said the State is ready to proceed with the trial on 02 October 2023.
