A female black rhino carcass with a bullet wound in the stomach, was on 18 August 2023 discovered at a waterhole inside a game farm situated in the Grootfontein district of the Otjozondjupa Region. According to the Namibian Police Force head of community affairs in the region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha, workers of the farm made the discovery. Reporting that both of its horns were found intact to the skull. Police’s preliminary investigations on the carcass revealed that the animal was shot and injured by unknown poacher on the farm, and on last week Friday the rhino succumbed to the injury at one of the waterholes inside the farm.
