Expect internet disruptions in South Africa as two undersea cables snapped on same day

Two undersea communication cables that are critical for network operators in South Africa snapped on the same day. This has resulted in disruptions to the internet with some websites slow and others entirely off. News24 reports that the West Africa Cable System and the South Atlantic Telecommunications Cable number three both broke on 6 August, in the Congo Canyon reportedly due to a rockfall in the canyon. Openserve confirmed that the break in the cables occurred and said that a consortium of partners is working to restore these cables.
