The City of Tshwane says it is fast-tracking the building of social housing in a bid to curb the mushrooming of informal settlements. Mayoral Committee member for Human Settlements, Ofentse Madze-batela says they are looking at intensifying the development of social housing, but what they are also finding is that once they start building, people get the impression that these are free houses. He adds that his department is assisting the metro with funds to curb the mushrooming settlements:
