ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula has issued a warning to provincial leaders against removing mayors without his approval. News24 reports, Mbalula penned a letter advising them to adhere to the party’s established procedures for appointing mayors and mayoral committee members. He expressed concern about mayoral changes occurring without following party guidelines. The party adopted criteria in 2021 for appointing mayors, including educational qualifications and relevant experience.
