An investigative report on the 2022 National Assembly of South Africa fire has revealed the blaze could have been prevented. Updating the media on the report, secretary to Parliament, Xolile George, said investigations revealed Parliament’s security was breached. George says there was no designated head of security and the buildings had been left vulnerable at night. He adds there was non-compliance across multiple facets, including the number of CCTV cameras, and smoke detectors that malfunctioned.
