Israel’s defence chief has admitted there were security failures in the military response to Saturday’s attack by Hamas.
His comments came as the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Israel, where he promised continued American support for the country. However, there are growing concerns for the humanitarian situation in Gaza, with the United Nations saying conditions are “dire”, with food and water running out. Ross Cullen in Tel Aviv says the safety of the hostages is also unknown, while the bombing of Gaza by Israel continues.
