Popular Democratic Movement leader McHenry Venaani has said the upcoming regional and local authority elections should be postponed if the state of emergency is extended beyond September. The Namibian newspaper reports that Venaani made the remarks at a media event in Windhoek in response to the announcement by president Hage Geingob to extend the Khomas region’s lockdown for five days. Meanwhile, Venaani said he is expecting a motion to be tabled in the National Assembly next week on whether to extend the state of emergency, which comes to an end on 17 September 2020.
