An international study led by the University of Pretoria in Gauteng has found that the mass die-off of 350 elephants in Botswana last year could be due to the fencing-in of the elephants. According to Newsflash, Zoology Professor Rudi van Aarde says the exact cause of the deaths is yet to be determined but evidence gathered points to this possibly being the case. He says Botswana authorities’ claims that cyanobacteria, blue-green algae bloom found in small reservoirs, was the cause has yet to be proven.
