Schwenk Zement International is still interested in selling its Namibian subsidiary, Schwenk Namibia, despite the Namibian Competition Commission rejecting a proposed acquisition by West China Cement Ltd last month. The Namibia press agency reports that Schwenk Building Materials Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Thomas Spannagl on Monday said according to Schwenk’s strategy to concentrate on the core business cement, concrete and aggregates in Europe, it has decided to maintain its decision to divest its Namibian assets. It is important to note that the search for a potential buyer included Namibian institutions, asset managers, and other interested parties but none could be identified that could fulfil the requirements, Spannagl said.
