The names of 13 South African universities are included in the Best Global Universities Rankings which looked at a total of 86 countries to name the world’s top 1,500 universities. These included: The University of Cape Town, which ranked 1st in South Africa and 103rd in the World; The University of Witwatersrand which ranked 2nd in South Africa and 192nd in the World; The University of Stellenbosch which ranked 3rd in South Africa and 321st in the World, and the University of Kwazulu Natal which ranked 4th in South Africa and 332nd in the World. The lowest ranking South African university, which nonetheless still made it onto the global list, was the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University which ranked 1 254th in the World. Neither of Namibia’s universities made it onto the list.
