South African Police minister Bheki Cele says they are working on having a dedicated desk at police stations to deal with gender-based violence cases. Newsflash reports that from the start of April this year 21-thousand-203 cases of domestic violence cases were reported in the country with 14-thousand-777 suspects charged. Meanwhile in the first six months of this year, 217 life sentences were handed down to people found guilty of gender-based violence but Cele says there is a need to work harder on the prevention of violence against women and children.
