A Russian eco-friendly building that twists 90-degrees has been named skyscraper of the year. Towering more than 462 metres above St. Petersburg, the Lakhta Center has received the Emporis’ 2020 Skyscraper Award, beating more than 700 buildings under consideration. When it opens next year, it will be the headquarters for a Russian natural gas company, Gazprom. The Leeza Soho Tower in Beijing and 35 Hudson Yards in New York City was named second and third place winners, respectively.
