The Popular Democratic Movement has condemned the government for constructing 33 corrugated-iron houses for a marginalized community in the Kavango West Region to the value of N$1.4 million. Nampa reports that the official opposition party on Wednesday said it condemn this move, for reasons that, ‘it is illegal by housing standard. It’s an act of corruption. It’s an act of inhumanity, poor planning and a declaration of mental bankruptcy by the Swapo-led government.’ PDM further charged that the aspect of systematic corruption in this matter is that public funds were used to construct these shacks without public procurement processes being followed, because the fact that shacks are regarded as illegal structures in Namibia and public funds were used to construct such illegal structures at outrageous costs, shows that public offices have been used corruptly for this shameful act to take place’.
