The One South Africa Movement has called on the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights to address incidents of abuse of power including the arrest of a Tanzanian presidential candidate hours before the general elections in that country. Newsflash reports that the organisation says there has been an increase in illegal detentions, torture, and suppression of rights in several African countries including Nigeria that have gained international attention. The movement says it is time for the Commission to step in before more innocent lives are lost through the escalation of abuses.
