Today at the Namibia Rugby Union’s press conference in Windhoek, which Future Media News attended, Don Walters the Vice president of Governance at the NRU, said it was the first time in Namibian history that a sports federation produced a governance and transparency report. The Namibia Rugby Union as part of its Strategic Plan for the period 2020 to 2023, identified good governance as part of its core values. Governance was defined to “proactively incorporate best practice and financial management processes and hold role players accountable to act in the best interest of stakeholders”. According to the NRU, this is also part of their efforts to rid the union of negativity around its brand and to ensure that we communicate in an open and honest way about the affairs of the NRU.
