The National Assembly has dismissed allegations in a newspaper article titled ‘Katjavivi acquires machine to mute unruly MPs’, describing its content as fabricated lies and misinformation intended to mislead the readers. The Namibia press agency quotes NA public relations officer David Nahogandja as saying that the process of acquiring the new microphone system for Members of Parliament to use in the Chamber started with the tendering procedure around June 2019, long before the Seventh National Assembly was elected. He explained that the acquisition of the new system, rather than being motivated by the need to ‘control MPs’ was necessitated by the fact that the old Chamber system had become obsolete and was malfunctioning and overwhelmed by connection problems, where most of the microphones were not working and no replacement parts were available.
