The Ministry of Finance has said at least 769 130 individuals have so far benefited from the Emergency Income Grant, a once-off payment of N$ 750 per qualifying person on the basis of having lost income or experienced difficult circumstances during the lockdown necessitated by the State of Emergency instituted to curb the spread of the novel Coronavirus, and more than N$ 500 million has thus far paid out. The Namibia press agency quotes the ministry’s Chief Public Relations Officer as saying that the ministry has concluded the payment process and will soon start with data reconciliation, before it closes off the project.
