South Africa’s Independent Police Investigative Directorate confirmed that four police members have been arrested for the death of thirty-five-year-old Mthokozisi Ntumba who was fatally wounded by rubber bullets when he landed between protesting Wits University students while walking in Braamfontein. Meanwhile mass student protest is expected to continue on Tuesday as The South African Union of Students says no resolution has been found to meet their demands. Chief among these demands is the financial clearance of historical debt for students, which currently stands at R13 billion and the immediate provision of post-graduate funding. They are also demanding, among other things, increased student enrolment quotas, a zero percent fee increase for the 2021 academic year, and free registration for all students during the 2021 academic year.
