The Namibian Society of Engineers has joined the fray, calling on President Hage Geingob to halt the liquidation of Air Namibia, as they say it will have far-reaching ramifications on the engineering sector and dash Namibia’s hopes of becoming a leader in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The Society highlighted that there are at least 30 engineers and technicians specialised in the field of aeronautical engineering and aircraft maintenance engineering who will be unemployable once the airline shuts down. This, they say, is because most of them only specialised in certain aircraft and at the moment the only other company that has the same aircraft as those of Air Namibia is West Air, which is a private airline.
