South Africa’s Justice Minister, Ronald Lamola has assured the country that there is no political interference with the work of the National Prosecuting Authority and the Special Investigating Unit. Of the 15.6-billion rand spent on personal protective equipment and other Covid-19 measures from April to August, the SIU is probing contracts worth 10.5-billion rand. Most cases are in Gauteng, the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Free State. Lamola told eNCA that the NPA, SIU, and the Hawks are being provided with the skills they require.
