Police in Opuwo have recently noted with concern the high rate of juvenile crimes by school going and street kids that has been causing havoc among the residents of the town. Nampol’s Kunene spokesperson told the Namibia press agency that the children are said to be working in groups of around 20, ranging from nine to 13 years of age to engage in a variety of crimes including housebreaking with intent to steal especially phones, laptops, radios, money, and other electrical appliances. She explained that they normally target their victims around lunch hour when the owners of houses are going back to work, adding that most of the kids are members of gangs while negligence and mistreatment by parents and guardians also plays a role.
