Just weeks after announcing that the two countries had reached “progress” on promoting “further disengagement” of the border troops to de-escalate tensions, India has accused China of carrying out “provocative military movements” in the Himalayan border area. Al Jazeera quotes an Indian army statement as saying that Indian troops pre-empted Chinese army’s activity and had taken steps to thwart the Chinese attempt to “unilaterally change” facts on the ground. China’s foreign ministry meanwhile denied its troops had crossed the Line of Actual Control, the de facto frontier between the two countries, and added that the two sides are communicating regarding conditions on the ground.
