Following numerous meetings with the Minister of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform, Calle Schlettwein, the handful of remaining dairy farmers and dairy processor, Namibia Dairies, can now look forward to a rescue plan. Schlettwein said several submissions had been made at the technical, managerial and ministerial level, including the possibility of subsidies for inputs such as animal feed, veterinary services, water, and electricity, while tariff protection and import restrictions for the dairy industry will also be looked at. Future Media News contacted Kokkie Adriaanse, the chairperson of the Dairy Producers Association of Namibia, who says there is finally light at the end of the tunnel.
