The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security has granted exemption from Section 39(2) (h) to any foreign national who has exceeded the period stipulated in their last permit due to the COVID-19 lockdown. The exemption is with effect from 16 December 2020 to 28 February 2021. Addressing a media briefing in Windhoek today, Home Affairs Minister Frans Kapofi said: “The pandemic has presented not only to Namibia, but to all other countries with some drastic challenges in many operational undertakings.” The measures taken to prevent and contain the spread of COVID-19, he said include global travel restrictions, hence some foreign nationals have been left stranded in different countries including Namibia.
