Speaking on the occasion of World Heritage Day, which is celebrated today under the theme “Housing For All – A Better Urban Future”, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Gutteres explained that currently 1 billion people live in overcrowded settlements with inadequate housing and that by 2030 that number will rise to 1.6 billion. The urgency of improving living conditions, Gutteres said has been brought to the fore by Covid-19 which has devastated the lives of millions in cities.
