Eight government ministries returned a total of N$ 273.7 million to the national Treasury in 2019. Nampa reports that the eight auditor general reports tabled by finance minister Ipumbu Shiimi in the National Assembly last week cover the 2018/19 financial year. The ministries guilty of under expenditure include safety and security, land reform, works and transport, which returned the highest amount to treasury, around N$ 72.2 million, its report indicated; and the fisheries ministry which returned N$ 21.3 million to the national purse. Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila recently warned executive directors to ensure that money requested is spent because the government is charged interest when it takes out loans and bonds, just for money to be returned to state coffers.
