The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation reacted to the news of the death of veteran South African human rights advocate George Bizos at 92 by saying a towering giant has fallen. Bizos represented several struggle heroes during apartheid, including Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisulu, while at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, he spoke for the families of liberation icons such as Steve Bantu Biko, Chris Hani, and the Cradock Four. Meanwhile, South African president Cyril Ramaphosa paid tribute to Bizos, who was also renowned as one of the founders of the country’s Constitution, saying South Africa has lost a monumental figure in its history.
