Bank of Namibia Governor Johannes !Gawaxab, said that the level of Namibia’s international reserves is expected to decrease in 2021 and 2022 as SACU revenues decline despite a projected increase by 10.5 per cent by the end of 2020. According to !Gawaxab, Namibia had good inflow between 2010 and 2017 as several private sector projects such as the Husab Mine attracted investments. However, as from 2019 the economy has been weak, reducing the incentive of foreign firms to expand businesses. !Gawaxab also pointed out that interest on government debt has grown from close to one per cent about 10 years ago to about 4.5 per cent currently, explaining that this leaves less money to be spent on service delivery.
