Former South African president FW de Klerk, who in October last year lost his son, Willem to cancer, announced during his 85th birthday celebration on Thursday, that he too has been diagnosed with cancer. News24 reports that according to the former president’s foundation, he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, which is a cancer that affects the tissue lining the lungs and that he “will start a course of immunotherapy next week”. The foundation said that there is no immediate threat and they are confident the treatment will be successful.
