The Gauteng provincial government in South Africa says it is moving ahead with its plans to implement the Township Economic Development Bill, aimed at revitalising the economy in the most densely populated areas of the province. Meanwhile in signs of growing nationalism and a throwback to the xenophobia blamed on attacks on foreign shop owners the country has seen in the past, the spokesperson for the Gauteng premier told Jacaranda FM that foreign nationals will be barred from doing business in the province’s townships unless they obtain permanent residency.
