The nine men arrested in connection with the Fishrot corruption scandal are expected to make another appearance in the magistrate’s court on Monday 14 December 2020. The Namibia Press Agency (Nampa) reports that the group appeared before Windhoek Magistrate Vanessa Stanley on 14 September, when their corruption scandal case was postponed in order to allow the police to complete their investigations into the matter. On 12 November 2019, WikiLeaks began publishing what it called the Fishrot Files, a collection of thousands of documents and email communication by employees of one of Iceland’s largest fish industry companies, Samheji, that indicated that the company had paid hundreds of millions of dollars to high ranking politicians and officials in Namibia with the objective of acquiring the country’s coveted fishing quota.
