The City of Cape Town in South Africa says they are investigating methods for residents to divert their own food waste. One such trial is the food waste diversion project operating from four council drop-off sites. Participants are issued with a bucket to fill with food waste. When the bucket is full, they return it to a designated site whereafter it is taken to a solid waste facility. Here it will be weighed and composted. The city says the project will be assessed at the end of June to see whether it has the potential for further rollout.
