Aviation expert Guy Leitch says it is clear that government does not have the money to bail out South African Airways. SAA business rescue practitioners have suspended all airline operations with immediate effect, while they wait for an outcome of the group’s funding issues. They say 10.5-billion-rand is needed for the airline to resume operations. Speaking to the SABC, Leitch said he believes SAA is beyond saving. Separately, the BBC reports that South Africa has opened its borders to travellers from all African countries, but has retained restrictions against countries with higher coronavirus infection rates including the UK, the US, and Russia.
