There has been an airstrike in a mountainous area on the outskirts of Mekelle, the capital of Ethiopia’s Tigray region. BBC Africa Live reports that no casualties have been reported. However, it is unclear who carried out the airstrike. Makelle – which has a population of between 400,000 and 500,000 – is the headquarters of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front. The federal government has launched a military offensive to dislodge it from power in the region. The TPLF has vowed to defend itself and controls the region’s security forces.
