The Electoral Commission of Namibia has issued a media statement reassuring the public that, contrary to information being circulated on social media, voter cards that were issued during the 2014 General Registration of Voters are valid and voters can use these cards to vote during the 2020 Regional Council and Local Authority Elections. The ECN explained that in terms of Section 25 (1) of the electoral act, a general registration must take place at intervals of not more than 10 years during a period determined by the President by proclamation in the Gazette, with 2014 being the last time the exercise was undertaken. Eligible voters are urged to ensure that they are registered to vote in the constituency or local authority in which they reside.
